Configuring a Printer in Raspberry Pi

This guide will walk you through the process of adding and configuring a printer in CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) on Raspberry Pi. The process includes driver selection and setup for printers like the DNP DP-QW410 using Gutenprint.


🧭 Step-by-Step Guide #

1. Access Printybooth Web Interface #

  • Go to the Printers tab.
  • Click the Config button next to the printer you want to set up.

2. Open Local Printer Settings #

  • Navigate to the Connection tab.
  • Click the Local printer settings button.
  • When there is no Local printer settings Printer is probably not connected to Internet


3. Open CUPS Web Interface #

  • Click on the Administration tab or directly on Add Printer.


4. Select the Printer #

  • Choose your printer from the list (e.g., Dai Nippon Printing DP-QW410). – Printer has to be connected to RPi !

  • Click Continue.

5. Define Printer Name and Connection #

  • Fill in:
    • Name (e.g., Dai_Nippon_Printing_DP-QW410)
    • Description (optional)
    • Connection (should be auto-filled)

  • Click Continue.

6. Select Printer Manufacturer #

  • From the list, select the correct manufacturer (e.g., Dai Nippon Printing).
  • Click Continue.


7. Select Printer Driver (Model) #

  • Choose the correct model from the list (e.g., Dai Nippon Printing QW410 – CUPS+Gutenprint v5.3.5-pre1).

  • Click Add Printer.

8. Confirm Setup #

  • You’ll see a success message indicating the printer was added.
  • You can now click Set Printer Options to configure media size and defaults.

9. Config Printer Defaults #

  • Set media size


10. Set Printer as Default #

  • Navigate to printer settings(Printer Tab -> Your printers name)
  • Click on Administration select box and click „Set As Server Default“


✅ Printer is now ready! #
